Digital picture frames are elvolving: wireless technology, streaming media, multiple display modes, and larger screens. What does the future hold? Who knows, but one glimpse of it is available by looking at a breakthrough type of display technology known as OLED: Organic Light Emitting Diode. Kodak is the first of the digital photo frame manufacturers to introduce a frame using this technology.
So what can OLED do for digital picture frames, and what are the characteristics of the OLED Kodak digital picture frame?
OLED involves the use of organic material that illuminates when stimulated with electrical charge. It promises to be a display technology that has incredible quality, response time, viewing angles, and contrast. More than anything, screens using OLED can be amazingly thin. Kodak as usual pushes the envolope and has already released a Kodak OLED digital picture frame. Its a 7.6 inch digital frame, and takes full advantage of OLED in being ultra-thin. The frame is also wireless capable, and takes advantage of the Kodak Perfect Touch technology for fully optimized display of photos in the frame based on image quality. An ambient light sensor also automatically adjust the digital frame brightness based on room lighting.
Of course the frame is cutting edge and cost a cool $999.95! But like any other leading technology, let's put it in the back of our mind, watch it develop, and see what the price does. We all remember when plasma TVs were the stuff of dreams!
