A recent news release from Kodak announced their latest digital picture frame, the D830 which looks like a winner and has lots of interesting characteristics that say a lot about where Kodak and digital picture frames in general are going. The Kodak D830 (and the larger D1030 supposedly coming later this year) has many of the Kodak digital frame features we are familiar with and continues to push its flexibility in home decor capability.
The Kodak EASYSHARE D830 has many great features, though we wouldn't describe it as overloaded with functions. Its an 8-inch frame with 800x600 resolution, and uses the popular Kodak Quick Touch Border control system that gives the user a touch system just off the screen to driver functions. Again, we are going from the press release, but it uses the Kodak Color Science for screen quality and Kodak has a great track record for screen display quality.
Kodak makes a big deal on the not just the wood frame for the D830, but the fact that it is interchangeable, meaning their frames are "customizable with hundreds of standard 8”x10” picture frames* allowing people to share their pictures and memories in ways that match their décor and style preferences – even if those preferences change.” Kodak has made a big deal with their home decor series of digital picture frames that emphasize customization, and the D830 seems to take it to a new level.
The Kodak D830 also has 512 MB of internal (becoming standard on most frames), slideshow as well as collage and clock/calendar display modes, and the green movement is coming to digital frames! Kodak emphasizes its "environmentally responsible design including ENERGY STAR® qualified power adapter, mercury free panel and programmable on-off settings to control power consumption".
What's equally exciting about this frame and hopefully in regards to digital photo frames in general is that suggested retail for the Kodak D830 is $139, a pretty reasonable starting MSRP for a frame with these features and quality. Digital frames are indeed becoming more affordable which is great news for our customers!
